Disney says its live-action retelling of Tangled is scheduled to open in theaters March 31, 2028. The company presented the project during D23 and said filming is currently underway in Spain.

Production details announced at D23

Disney said Michael Gracey is directing the film and Kristin Burr is producing. The company identified Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively, and listed Kathryn Hahn, Diego Luna, Caitríona Balfe and Elliot Cowan among the cast.

The film is described as a live-action retelling of Disney’s 2010 animated feature. The D23 presentation offered production and casting details but did not set out a full synopsis or release-marketing schedule.

Why the timing matters

A 2028 date gives the project a long production runway. As with other studio releases announced years in advance, the date is subject to the normal changes that can occur in filming, post-production and distribution planning.
