Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is taking another major step into independent media with the launch of The Don Lemon Channel, a free, ad-supported television network designed to bring his digital programming back to traditional TV screens. Lemon Media Network is launching the channel in partnership with Swerve TV, a company specializing in free ad-supported streaming television, commonly known as FAST channels. (Variety)

The new network represents a significant expansion of the media operation Lemon began building after leaving CNN in 2023. The Don Lemon Show launched in 2024 and has since developed an audience across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitch and other digital platforms. Earlier this year, Lemon Media Network announced it had surpassed 10 million followers across its various platforms; Lemon now says that audience is approaching 11 million. (The Don Lemon Show)

Rather than simply rebroadcasting Lemon’s existing show, the new channel is being developed as a broader programming destination. Plans call for two live programs each day, daily news updates, archived programming and shows featuring other independent voices. Announced contributors include The Monique Pressley Show, Josh the Progressive, former U.S. Capitol Police officer Michael Fanone and physician Dr. Frita. (The Grio)

The partnership with Swerve TV could also give Lemon’s programming access to audiences beyond social media. Swerve specializes in building and distributing 24/7 FAST channels and already operates programming available through major connected-TV and streaming ecosystems. The model allows viewers to watch programming without a paid subscription, with advertising supporting the service. (Swerve TV)

For Lemon, the move marks a notable evolution from cable-news anchor to independent media owner. Instead of returning to an established television network, he is attempting to turn the audience built around his own digital brand into a television network of its own. The expansion also reflects a larger shift in the media industry as established journalists and online creators increasingly build programming businesses capable of reaching viewers across social media, streaming platforms and connected televisions.
