Vem Miller, a 49-year-old Las Vegas resident, was arrested near the rally venue after authorities found a loaded handgun, shotgun, and high-capacity magazines in his possession. The Riverside County Sheriff, Chad Bianco, suggested that the incident may have been an assassination attempt, stating, “I truly do believe we prevented another assassination attempt” People.com WHRO Public Media. According to officials, Miller’s SUV, which had a homemade license plate, was stopped at a security checkpoint near the venue. His fraudulent entry passes led deputies to search his vehicle, where they uncovered the firearms. While Miller was released on $5,000 bail, the investigation remains active, involving collaboration between the FBI, Secret Service, and local authorities Newsweek.
This incident follows two previous assassination attempts on Trump in 2024. In July, a gunman fired shots during a rally in Pennsylvania, with one bullet grazing Trump’s ear. In September, another man was arrested near Trump’s Florida golf course with a rifle in what was described as a planned attack People.com The Nightly.
Miller, identified as part of a right-leaning anti-government group, claimed he did not intend to harm Trump and expressed shock at the arrest, explaining that he had attended previous Trump rallies with firearms in his car without issue. Despite the incident, Trump continued his rally without interruption, emphasizing the importance of security as he campaigns for re-election in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
