Tucson police have classified the deadly shooting outside Venture-N, a longtime LGBTQ+ bar, as a hate-motivated attack. Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, were fatally shot in the bar’s parking lot shortly after midnight on August 31.
Police identified the attacker as 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay, who died after turning the weapon on himself, according to investigators. Authorities said Ceesay did not know the victims and acted alone. Investigators recovered notes containing anti-LGBTQ+ statements and references to multiple businesses associated with Tucson’s LGBTQ+ community.
Police contacted the other businesses identified in the notes and said they found no evidence of an ongoing threat. Additional patrols were deployed around LGBTQ+-friendly establishments as residents gathered for vigils honoring Siqueiros and Capara. The attack has brought renewed attention to violence targeting LGBTQ+ communities and the importance of protecting spaces traditionally regarded as safe and welcoming. Associated Press
