Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is drawing national attention to what he describes as a troubling pattern involving the deaths of three 18 year old Black teenagers: Nolan Wells of Mississippi, Daniel Erving of Texas, and Tyler Smith of Kentucky.

Speaking at the National Urban League Annual Conference in Nashville alongside the families of all three young men, Crump said each case involves unanswered questions, grieving families seeking transparency, and no one being held criminally responsible for the deaths. Three Families, One Demand: Answers

During the press conference, the families stood together to ask for transparency and accountability as they continue searching for answers about how their sons died.

Crump noted that although the circumstances differ, all three families believe important questions remain unanswered and that the investigations should continue until every fact is fully examined. Nolan Wells Case Remains Under Investigation

Nolan Wells disappeared during a July 4 boating trip to Horn Island, Mississippi. His body was recovered two days later, and the official investigation remains active.

According to Crump, his legal team has retained forensic audio experts to analyze the complete Sea Tow emergency call and oceanographic experts to evaluate currents and other environmental factors related to where Nolan’s body was found. He also said his team continues working with prosecutors as additional evidence is reviewed. (WZTV)

Daniel Erving’s Family Challenges Official Findings

Daniel Erving disappeared after visiting Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas, Texas. Authorities ruled his death an accidental drowning.

However, Erving’s family disputes that conclusion. Although two teenagers have been charged with tampering with physical evidence after investigators alleged they discarded Erving’s phone and clothing and deleted communications, no one has been charged in connection with causing his death.

Tyler Smith Investigation Also Under Scrutiny

Tyler Smith died from a gunshot wound in Lexington, Kentucky on July 4.

Police have described the shooting as accidental and self inflicted, but Smith’s family disputes that conclusion. Authorities have charged another individual with tampering with physical evidence, yet no homicide charges have been filed.

Crump questioned whether investigators conducted every available forensic test and said Smith’s family deserves a complete accounting of what happened that night. (WZTV)

During the Nashville event, Crump highlighted what he believes is the common thread connecting the three cases.
