Disney says Oswald, a new live-action and animation hybrid series built around Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on Feb. 17, 2027. The company screened a clip at its D23 Entertainment Showcase.

What is known about the series

Disney identifies Jon Favreau as creator, writer, co-director and executive producer. The premise described in the company’s announcement follows a classic cartoon rabbit navigating the modern world after an earthquake releases him from long concealment.

Disney listed Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Ryder Allen, Al Madrigal, Kathryn Hahn and Albert Brooks among the cast. The studio described the project as a hybrid of live action and animation rather than a conventional fully animated series.

What the announcement signals

The project brings an early Disney character into a new streaming series while using a contemporary format. Disney did not announce episode counts or a release cadence in its D23 presentation.
