Disney used its D23 Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim to lay out a wide-ranging slate of films, streaming series and development updates across its studios. The August 14 event mixed confirmed release dates with first looks and early-development announcements—a distinction fans will want to keep in mind as the company maps projects years into the future.

Among the biggest date-specific updates, Disney said Lilo & Stitch 2 is scheduled to open in theaters on May 26, 2028. The company said the sequel is expected to begin production in Hawaiʻi later this year, with Chris Sanders set to direct. Disney also presented a teaser and poster for The Bluey Movie, which it says will arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027.

A new calendar for familiar franchises

Pixar used the showcase to confirm that Incredibles 3 is planned for a June 16, 2028, theatrical release. Disney also dated Ice Age: Boiling Point for February 5, 2027, and highlighted a first look at Gatto, scheduled for March 5, 2027.

Several announcements were framed as development updates rather than finished projects. Disney said Zootopia 3 is in early development and that its release timing will be announced later. Pixar also revealed an original feature with the working title Ghost Market, which Disney lists for March 2028. The different levels of specificity matter: a dated theatrical release is a firmer signal than a project that remains in development, and studio schedules can still change.

Disney+ and live-action projects also received updates

On the streaming side, Disney said Jon Favreau’s live-action/animated hybrid Oswald is set to premiere on Disney+ on February 17, 2027. The company also gave attendees a look at Ahsoka season two, which it says will premiere on Disney+ on January 20, 2027.

The showcase included updates from Disney’s live-action film pipeline as well. Disney said its new Tangled adaptation is currently filming in Spain and is scheduled for March 31, 2028. The company also presented a teaser for The Bluey Movie, a project being made with Ludo Studio and BBC Studios and distributed through Walt Disney Studios.

What the D23 announcements mean

The showcase underscores how Disney is relying on a mix of established franchises, streaming extensions and original animation to build a multi-year entertainment calendar. For audiences, it provides a useful roadmap—but not a final one. Film and streaming release dates can move, and projects identified as early development have more room to change before reaching theaters or a streaming service.

For now, the most concrete takeaway is the scale of the schedule: Disney used one event to set or reaffirm dates from early 2027 through 2029, while also introducing projects still much earlier in their lifecycle.
