What is APO and How Does It Work?

APO optimizes performance by ensuring the right cores handle the most demanding tasks. Intel’s hybrid architecture, which includes both performance (P-cores) and efficiency (E-cores), sometimes struggles to allocate workloads efficiently. APO addresses this by refining thread management policies, particularly for games with complex workloads.

With APO, supported games avoid unnecessary use of slower efficiency cores, concentrating high-demand tasks on performance cores for smoother gameplay. This leads to significant improvements in titles like Metro Exodus and Rainbow Six Siege. APO’s latest update extends this advantage to additional games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Total War: Warhammer 3, and Counter-Strike 2.

New CPUs and Gaming Titles Now Supported

Intel’s new Core Ultra 200S processors (part of the Arrow Lake family) are optimized for APO, making them an excellent choice for gamers seeking enhanced performance. This software also works with select 12th and 13th Gen CPUs in advanced mode, although official support focuses primarily on i7 and i9 models from the 14th Gen lineup.
